US job creation in June was highly anticipated after the disappointing figures for May.

The excellent figures for June confirms that May was more of an aberration than the beginning of a trend, as 287,000 jobs were created in June after only 11,000 in May (revised downwards). The US economy created 149,000 jobs on average in the two months. This is less than the 250,000 jobs created on average in 2014 and 2015, but this is hardly surprising after eight years of expansion and an unemployment rate of less than 5%.
